LDT4SSC First Pilots Officially Launched

15 May 2026

We are proud to announce that the first two pilots of the LDT4SSC project have officially launched on 15 May 2026. These pilots bring together 18 consortium members across four European cities and will run for 18 months, demonstrating how Local Digital Twins can be interconnected to drive smarter, more sustainable urban decision-making across borders.

EU-TwinLink
Cartagena, Spain Almelo, Netherlands
11 consortium members
18 months duration

EU-TwinLink interconnects mature Local Digital Twins in Cartagena and Almelo into a trustworthy, interoperable network focused on the green transition. In Cartagena, the twin supports air quality monitoring, Low Emission Zone management and climate resilience, while in Almelo it drives the energy transition through a Positive Energy District living lab. The pilot adds shared cross-city services — including common data models, scenario simulation tools and citizen-facing dashboards — and introduces a carbon credentialing and tokenisation layer that enables participating cities to convert avoided emissions into verifiable, market-ready CO₂ credentials.

MUNICIPAL
Murcia, Spain Nicosia, Cyprus
7 consortium members
18 months duration

MUNICIPAL connects the MiMurcia and iniCOSIA smart city platforms to demonstrate how two municipalities in different member states can share Local Digital Twin services across energy and mobility sectors. Murcia's highly dispersed urban geography — with 60% of its population spread across 54 rural districts — creates intense daily mobility pressures and significant cooling and irrigation demands, while Nicosia brings advanced IoT and AI services for energy management. Using the SIMPL middleware and Common European Data Spaces framework, the pilot enables sovereign, cross-border data sharing via NGSI-LD, allowing both cities to reuse each other's infrastructure and AI training assets while retaining full ownership and governance of their local data.
